After Monday's Empty Nesters' Christmas Dinner Party, and Wednesday's Christmas Dinner and Devotional at another ward, I still had the opportunity to attend my own ward's Relief Society Christmas Dinner party. It's the holidays, so bring on the fat and calories! I was asked to decorate one of the tables for 6 people. After Monday's dinner for 40, this was a piece of cake. I was happy to do it although I didn't volunteer because I thought people may have already seen quite enough of my table settings.
Here is my table. I didn't even have to bring a tablecloth.
The food was simple but wonderful.
My friend, Mellanie, conducted and asked everyone to share a favorite Christmas tradition.
I thought about saying my favorite memory was eating my brother's Christmas orange (even though I don't remember since I was ONLY 2 YEARS OLD)! I reconsidered because it has caused him bitter memories for all of these years. Instead, I said that when my kids were small, we went to my brother's house and played toy musical instruments while his (then) wife strummed along on her guitar. Nine years ago, I tried to recreate that tradition and bought a couple different sets of toy musical instruments. My little children were now adults with spouses. When the song began (no guitar so we played a CD), my kids and their spouses played their instruments as fast and as loud as they possibly could each trying to be the most obnoxious. The reed blew out of the kazoo on the first song. One son-in-law nearly fainted from blowing so hard on a harmonica. The tambourine was punched through. The triangle was slammed (rather than pinged) with intense force. What a disaster! Funny though, it is still one of my favorite memories.
